Thanks, everyone, for the interesting discussion.
Does anyone know if the full Moyle court transcripts (plus, indeed, the full Walsh transcript) is available online?

Ken
in an earlier thread reference was made to a court case in which fred franz stated that jehovah god was editor of the "watch tower".
as this quotation is often used to support the allegation that jws believe the wt is inspired of god i thought it would be of wider interest to provide the relevant court record for general consideration.. the court case itself was in 1940 and was olin moyle against fred franz and others and the wtbts.
just so that you know who is who, hayden covington was attorney for the defendants and walter bruchhausen was attorney for the plaintiff.

have you ever been called before one?
were you ever on one?
what happened???
SwordofJah,
They reasoned with their fellow elder by using the Bible and publications entitled "Determining weakness, wickedness, and repentance"
Are you really an elder? I'd have thought most elders would have known the "publications" you refer to as being the January 1, 1995 Watchtower, p 27...

i had one of my infrequent phone conversations with my jw-elder-father yesterday.
he's been "in da troof" all his adult life, over 5 decades now.
it's all he knows.. so naturally, on those rare occasions when we talk, he launches into a "come back into the truth" soliloquy.
Blondie said:
But if numbers were proof that the WTS is the true religion, then Islam, Mormons, and Roman Catholics have them beat.
Very true, plus Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostals, etc...
See http://www.gatheringofisrael.com/gospelclock/gospelclock2002.html
The firgures are a bit 'off' because the page hasn't been updated since January 2002, however it still gives a good overview of various religions' growth rates.

i asked the wife today, at the district, what the reasoning was for asking the rank and file to stay in for lunch, and not purchase the lunch elsewhere.
she stated that the reason was that some venues want the witnesses to purchase lunch from their concessions.
anyone else heard this??
Because once they've left the stadium, there's a good probability they'll get distracted / diverted and won't bother to return.
Which would be shame for WTS, 'cos then these dear sheep would miss the privilege of expressing their 'appreciation' as they walked past the contribution boxes...

if my recollection is correct, some here have stated that the wts no longer uses the ?do not eat blood?
argument.
i too thought that they had learned better, but not so.
I understand that even the strictest Jews, such as the Hasidim, accept blood transfusions.
For me, that says it all.

.
rr, feels russell got a bum rap.
i read some quotes of russell's that make me say he is to blame to a large extent by the things he wrote and who he allowed to write in "his" magaszine.
In answer to a question from some Watch Tower readers, Russell wrote in 1906:
?The truths I present, as God?s mouthpiece? [are] due to the simple fact that God?s due time has come; and if I did not speak, an no other agent could be found, the very stones would cry out.? (Watch Tower 1906 7/15 220)
Believing himself to be ?God?s mouthpiece? and his agent for revelation of truth, it seems fairly obvious he considered he was inspired by God. A few years later he again said:
?If [someone] merely read the Scripture Studies ? and had not read a page of the Bible, he would be in the light.? (Watch Tower 1910 9/15)
He was either extremely naive in believing these types of statements would not encourage the brethren to worship him personally (or, at least, to raise him on to a pedestal), or else he was being extremely devious and calculating.

what i mean is according to the society, there are a number of persons that are "technically" "inactive" yet are viewed as jws still.
i'm sure that i'm viewed as a witness still because i am not df'd or disassociated.....what about you??
?
Minimus,
I think Cas, I mean IT is right on this one.......BTW, how is old Caspian doing these days, IT??
No idea, haven't seen him around lately. Why not ask him yourself?

IT support, so you are saying that we who have just left the org, are still considered a jw? If that don't give me the creeps.
Yes. As Mulan correctly said, we're considered as 'inactive.'
Unless, of course, we disassociate ourselves, but even then the cards would still not be destroyed.

vadodara: in an underwater exploration in the gulf of cambay, national institute of ocean technology (niot) scientists discovered almost 9,500-year-old bricks made of clay and straw.
archaeological experts of the ms university who, too, are involved in a part of the exploration near surat and the coast of gulf of cambay, however, feel that a further insight into the size of the bricks can confirm its age and its period.

Isn't the usual explanation that the pre-Flood water canopy that swaddled the globe (and that then fell during the Flood) blocked 'harmful rays' from reaching the earth, and this has distorted carbon-dating techniques, which apparently work on the assumption that there have always been constant levels of background radiation that plants and animals absorb while living then disperse after death?

Blondie,
We're inactive but there have been statements by the WTS that if you are not "preaching" that you are no longer considered a JW.
At the last elders meeting I attended, the CO told us the Society's instructions were that inactive publishers' Record Cards should never be destroyed, but just be stored at the back of the file.
He didn't specifically say that such inactive ones would always be considered JWs, but I'm sure they would like to think they always had that hold over us.
Personally, I just walked out and have never returned: not (yet!) d/f or d/a.

Ken
